Physicians and pelvic physiotherapists often express having knowledge gaps in clitoral anatomy, surgery and therapy. This hands-on workshop will specifically target this need and participants will leave feeling confident that they understand the superficial and deep anatomy, and its relation to other pelvic structures and common urogynecology procedures. Participants will also learn new skills in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of certain clitoral pathologies, including clitoral phimosis and how to treat this with either physiotherapy or an in-office or surgical procedure. Videos created by the workshop faculty will be used to highlight some of these treatments and participants can practice on a pelvic model. This will allow the participant to not only leave the session equipped to perform new techniques (physiotherapy) and procedures (lysis of adhesions, dorsal clitoral nerve block), but have the content and curricular background to teach this content at their home institution.
The learning objectives for this workshop are:
1. Understand why the clitoris has historically been omitted from medical education.
2. Build an anatomically correct model of the clitoral complex including the nervous and vascular systems.
3. Offer physiotherapy scar mobilization and/or 'clitoral lysis of adhesions' procedures in their clinical practice
4. Feel empowered to create change to their home institution's anatomy curriculum with novel curricular content garnered from this workshop.
