Resident
Mass General Brigham
Dr. Akahara is a resident physician in Obstetrics and Gynecology with a deep and growing interest in urogynecology as a future subspecialty. Originally from Nigeria, he immigrated to the United States as a teenager and began his academic journey at Dallas County Community College before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin and completing medical school at UTHealth Houston. This non-traditional path has shaped his commitment to resilience, equity, and excellence in patient care.
As a first-generation physician, Dr. Akahara is passionate about building strong, trust-based relationships with patients, advancing medical education, and contributing to global health initiatives. He is especially drawn to urogynecology for its blend of complex surgical care, quality-of-life impact, and opportunities to advocate for women’s pelvic health—particularly in underserved populations both in the U.S. and abroad.
Dr. Akahara looks forward to learning from leaders in the field and further exploring how to integrate clinical excellence with meaningful community engagement and global collaboration.
