Jerry L. Lowder, MD, MSc, FACS graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biology - Cum Laude and a Minor in Chemistry. Afterwards he obtained an MD degree from the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina. Dr. Lowder then completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology at ECU-Pitt County Memorial Hospital. He then completed his Fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center-Magee Women’s Hospital during which time he also completed a Master of Science in Clinical Research Design. Dr. Lowder joined the Urogynecology faculty at UPMC in 2006 where he served as the Director of Clinical Outreach and Assistant Fellowship Director until he was recruited to Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2013 to serve as the Division Director of Urogynecology.
Dr. Lowder is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Surgery in the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. He served as Division Director for 10 years during which time he established the division as a regionally recognized referral center for advanced surgical care of complex pelvic floor disorders, helped establish a board-accredited Urogynecology Fellowship, developed a divisional research program that has had continuous intra- and extra-mural funding, developed and obtained as co-Principal Investigator an NIH NIDDK T32 Training Grant in benign female lower urinary tract disorders, and, relevant to this talk, established clinical and research collaborations to become a regional resource for the study and treat of recurrent urinary tract infections.
Dr. Lowder has been an active member in AUGS and has served as past Chair of the Payment Reform Committee and is the current Chair of the Publications Committee.
