Steven D. Abramowitch is the John A. Swanson Professor and Associate Chair of Culture and Community within the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh's Swanson School of Engineering. Nationally and internationally recognized for his work in biomechanics related to female pelvic health, he has secured over $14M in research funding and published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles. These have been collectively cited over 7,000 times.
Prof. Abramowitch earned his BS in Applied Mathematics in 1998 and his Ph.D. in Bioengineering in 2004, both from the University of Pittsburgh. He joined the university's Department of Bioengineering as a Research Assistant Professor in 2004. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2007 and to Associate Professor with Tenure in 2015. In 2016, he was named a William Kepler Whiteford Faculty Fellow, and he attained the rank of Full Professor in 2021. In 2024, he was named John A. Swanson Professor of Bioengineering.
