(Poster 40) Factors Associated with Prolonged Voiding Trial Follow-up for Post-op Patients

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify factors that prolong outpatient follow-up for patients following urogynecologic surgery.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted from 12/2021 to 3/2024, and a total of 105 charts were reviewed. Patients with POUR following urogynecologic surgery were identified. We collected demographics including age, ethnicity (Hispanic or non-Hispanic), and language spoken. We also collected the day surgery was performed, if they had a sling procedure, the clinic location where patients had their follow-up to (private versus community health clinic), and if the patients received discharge instructions to determine if these factors were associated with prolonged time to normal void. Prolonged time to normal void was defined as >3 days post surgery.

Results: Patients who received their care at the community health clinic where significantly more likely to have prolonged time to normal void (OR=2.47, 95% CI 1.09-5.75, p=0.033, p=0.033). Patients who had their surgery on Friday were also at increased risk for prolonged time to normal void compared to those who had their surgery on other days of the week (OR=2.36, 95% CI 1.06-5.41, p=0.038).

Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that patients at community health clinics and those having surgery on Friday were more likely to have prolonged time to normal void. This insight has allowed our institution to implement changes to our current processes for these patient populations to ensure they are not subject to delay in appropriate voiding trial follow-up.
